Dear Readers:
With this September/October 2024 issue, the new AmCham e-magazine hits its anniversary mark. Our hardcopy AmCham Magazine stopped publication five years ago. Last September, we started our online bi-monthly e-magazine. In just one year, viewership has grown to over 60,000 per issue.
In my view, this is because we have had an attractive complement of CEO Interviews, cover stories, topical articles, analysis, Chamber events reports, and advertorials in almost every issue. Our members also have submitted thought pieces, and we have reprinted with permission useful articles from other publications. All in all, this year has seen some very interesting articles in our AmCham e-magazine, and we thank you for your support!
Speaking of “support”, AmCham HK is here to support our members as they do business in Hong Kong, the region, and the US. Our programs provide education and topical assistance, stimulating our members’ business strategy and operations. Our social events provide networking for our members and friends—perhaps we will see you at the October 5th AmCham Ball! And our advocacy efforts are crucial in influencing government policy to facilitate our members’ ability to do business.
I must add at this point that, although we stick with business issues as much as we can and try to stay away from political commentaries, we are always watching if certain policy decisions affect our ability to do business here. When that happens, we reflect our views to the relevant government, whether it be the Central Government of China or HKSAR Government or the US Government. However, very often we do that quietly and not publicly.
In the current charged atmosphere with a contentious US-China relationship, we are very cautious of the way we advocate on behalf of our members. We may not always do so in the public arena, but rest assured we are constantly communicating with governments on behalf of our members.
Speaking of members’ views, keep an eye out for the new AmCham Business Sentiments Survey which will come your way in a couple of months. What you say in that survey is vital to Chamber positions and advocacy efforts.
Finally, this is another fascinating issue, with an interview with HK Disneyland CEO Michael Moriarty, a couple of timely articles, after the Paris Olympics, on Hong Kong sports, a Q&A with a very knowledgeable long-time watcher of China technology development, and other interesting articles about our members and Hong Kong. Enjoy!
