Dear Readers:
Every year, AmCham HK expends considerable time and effort on the Policy Address submission, which goes into the Chief Executive’s Office. The submission presents our members’ wishes and desires on how to make things easier for their businesses in Hong Kong and on how the economic environment can be improved. Our 16 committees each devote about a month to provide input regarding their business sectors, and the Chamber staff compiles them into a single document. Our Policy Address submission this year numbered more than 49 pages. The Policy Address was delivered by the HKSAR Chief Executive in mid-October, and the Chamber immediately did a comparison of the Policy Address and our submission. You will find this year’s comparison here. We found a considerable overlap between the Policy Address and our submission, meaning that AmCham HK‘s suggestions did have an impact.
As Hong Kong re-establishes itself as a global business city, the city must offer more aspects of life beyond just work and finance or trade. Our Ball this October championed the Great Outdoors of Hong Kong, and you will find a description of this fun-filled event which reminds all of us of the attractions and wonders and recreation that Hong Kong’s nature provides—and the preservation care needed. In this issue, another aspect of life in Hong Kong is highlighted—namely the performing arts. You will find an article on the Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Ballet and a conversation with the CEO of the Hong Kong Philharmonic—both organizations carving a niche in the global performing art and music scene. In the previous e-magazine issue, we had stories on the sports scene in Hong Kong, which gives Hong Kong pride, entertainment, and participation opportunities. And in this issue, there is an advertorial by the Hong Kong China Tennis Association telling readers about the globally top-level tennis tournaments being brought to Hong Kong. All of these enhance the quality of life in Hong Kong…..
If you are a Chamber member, may I remind you to fill in the 2025 Chamber Business Sentiment Survey, which is an important way to get feedback from members on the Hong Kong business environment. Company members received a link recently, and we thank you for sending your response in by December 20.
Enjoy this new issue of the e-magazine with many interesting and relevant stories. Happy Thanksgiving and a joyous holiday season!
