September/October 2025

Dr. Eden Woon

The leadership of AmCham HK just concluded its Doorknock to Beijing.  In two days, the group met with Chinese officials from several ministries and commissions, economists, American business leaders, and the US Ambassador to China to exchange views on a variety of subjects, ranging from US-China relations, to the Chinese economy, to business challenges our members face, to Hong Kong’s positioning.   You can read more in this issue.

This Beijing Doorknock and the one to Washington in July this year are two of the most important annual advocacy efforts by AmCham HK on behalf of our members, to reflect their views and learn the latest policy thinking from decision makers. This is especially needed in view of the turbulent global environment we are going through right now. We bring back the latest information to help our members make business decisions in an ever-changing landscape and to help us design the most relevant programs in the current environment.

There are those who say that a business association is most valuable when the external conditions are volatile or tough, and that is certainly the case for AmCham HK today!  In fact, just these past two weeks since the end of summer, we have had programs on human resources, on sustainability, on women of influence, and on regional implications of the tariff policies.  And looking ahead, this Fall will be busy for AmCham as we have three HKSAR Bureau Secretaries speaking to our members on topics ranging from arts and tourism and sports, logistics and transportation, to public health.  Plus we will continue to stage Future of Hong Kong programs on innovation and technology and on the financial markets.

On the lighter side, there will be our annual Ball at the end of October with the theme Waltzing in Wanchai when we dance and relax while celebrating one chapter of Old Hong Kong.  Finally, we will have our traditional Thanksgiving Luncheon where we dine with HKSAR officials who have supported the Chamber through the year,

But let us also note that September is nominations month for the Board of AmCham HK. If you are a member of AmCham and believe either you, or some other member you know, can be a great contributor to AmCham’s operations and development, please take action before September 30th.  Our Nominating Committee will meet in early October to recommend the list of successful nominees to the Board.

Finally, this e-Magazine issue is heavily loaded with stories on Hong Kong as an International Finance Center, starting with an impressive Cover Story featuring the head of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, and a CEO Interview with Jessica Cutrera of Leo Wealth – one of our Board members.  Please enjoy these and other very timely articles…
