In a world where modern slavery affects a staggering 49.6 million people, the fight against human trafficking is more crucial than ever. According to the International Labor Organization, these heinous crimes generate $236 billion annually. Myanmar’s vulnerabilities to trafficking have intensified due to Covid-19 and the 2021 military coup, leading to a surge in victims and evolving criminal methods impacting the globe. Furthermore, as recent stories of Hong Kong citizens being trafficked into scam compounds have come to light, it is evident that no one remains untouched by this crime. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for us to come together.
Among the organizations leading the charge against the injustice of human trafficking is Eden, an NGO dedicated to supporting human trafficking survivors in Southeast Asia. Eden has been working with trafficked girls and women in Asia for over 20 years, in five major cities. We venture into the most challenging areas, illuminating darkness with hope and love, amplifying awareness, and believing that even minor public awareness can create significant change.

A beacon of hope
Eden has been a lifeline for countless women and girls who have escaped the clutches of trafficking and sexual exploitation. With over 20 years of experience, Eden has reached more than 100,000 victims, and rescued over 1800 women and girls, offering comprehensive programs that include counseling, vocational training, and creative therapies. One of the most transformative skills taught at Eden is jewelry making, enabling survivors to turn their difficult pasts into stories of resilience and hope.
Each piece of jewelry created at Eden is not just an item for sale; it is a testament to the survivor’s journey. These handcrafted pieces carry the voice of their story, symbolizing their strength and courage. When you wear an Eden piece, you are not just making a statement; you are supporting the mission to break the cycle of poverty and debt that causes the vulnerability that leads to trafficking.

Healing through creativity
The profit generated from jewelry sales directly enhances the quality of life for the women involved in Eden’s programs. Each survivor receives a fair and equitable salary for their work as well as counselling, soft skills, and further development opportunities. This structure allows them to focus on their healing and the opportunity to work in a normal working environment while also earning a salary that enables them to support themselves and their families. The jewelry-making process itself acts as a therapeutic outlet, fostering a sense of accomplishment and empowerment.

Consider the inspiring story of Marlar, a survivor who once fell victim to modern slavery. After being rescued, she was referred to Eden, where she underwent extensive counseling and training. Today, she is not only a master jewelry maker but also a leader among her peers, inspiring others with her journey of recovery. Marlar’s transformation is a powerful example of how Eden’s holistic approach changes lives—her skills now provide for her family and support Eden’s ongoing mission. Watch her inspiring story here.
“When someone puts on a piece of Eden jewelry, they speak up for women like me, as we work to find our own voice again.” – Marlar
Expanding impact through microgreens
Eden’s commitment to empowering survivors goes beyond jewelry. In response to Myanmar’s socio-economic decline and rising poverty, exacerbated by military rule, Eden has pivoted to address food insecurity and its link to increased trafficking vulnerabilities. In the past year, Eden has introduced urban farming programs. As malnutrition surges, their goal is to harness the nutritional power of microgreens, converting them into powder for impoverished communities. Expanding this initiative, they are establishing more greenhouses, educating women from our program in organic farming, aiming not just for self-sufficiency but through job creation as a preventive measure against re-trafficking.
Through these innovative programs, Eden is not just a safe space for women and girls; it is a catalyst for change. Each survivor who participates in these initiatives contributes to a broader movement of empowerment, lifting themselves and their families out of poverty.

Your involvement can make a significant difference in the fight against this global issue. It can be a very uncomfortable subject to raise awareness but our creative approach ensures that there is always hope in every presentation we do.
Eden also offers unique corporate gifting options, allowing businesses to support a meaningful cause while providing their employees and clients with handcrafted jewelry. These gifts not only celebrate special occasions but also promote awareness about human trafficking and the vital work being done to combat it.
